Desert Fox Spiral Panning Wheel: Review

Desert Fox

Sometimes while sitting around camp in the late afternoons with a few 5 gallon buckets of concentrates left to pan out have you ever wondered how to make this process funner… faster…or easier? leaving one hand free to tip back an ice cold 12 oz can of nectar that’s surely been created by the Gods for one purpose and one purpose only???? and that is to alleviate a gold prospectors back pain while making him believe there’s more gold in his pan than there really is!! Well folks that question has been answered by Camel Mining Products Inc , and its called “The Desert Fox“. Quite a few years ago I ordered one of these bad boys from a place called “Dads Rock Shop” , I ordered it one day and it came in the next day, talk about service!! Well i watched the short video that came with it, which was better for me because I tend to not read instructions anyway, and i was off and running. Set up was fairly easy, fine tuning it was fairly easy, so i started practicing with some concentrates that i had already panned out, needless to say when ol Bucket pans it out…..its clean! (yeah…right) But the ease of setting it up and running it was fantastic and it comes in its own storage tub that’s also used to hold the unit, the water and the pump, so its (with the exception of the battery) fully self contained. As I tested it out in the field it worked flawlessly…and quickly dispatched two 5 gallon buckets full of concentrates, using very little water, and if you’ve got gold in your dirt, then you better believe the Desert Fox Spiral Panning Tub will capture it in the catch cup, Its a real thrill to watch a fairly good sized “picker” rapidly make its way up the spirals and into that catch cup.

So the next time you’re sitting around camp at the end of the day, admiring the smell of sauteed mushrooms and a well seasoned “cowboy cut” steak sizzling on the grill and wondering how many more buckets of dirt your back can handle panning out, think about giving Dads Rock Shop a call, you’ll get a friendly voice on the other end of the phone, and an early birthday gift soon after…from then on its a scoop in one hand and a cold frosty in the other while you’re sitting on your keester feeding your new fox and smelling a fine steak on the grill and watching the sun go down…it doesn’t get any better than that!! So for making my life one hella bit easier, I gladly give the Desert Fox Spiral Panning Tub the official Bucket & Boomer stamp of approval !!

Brought to you courtesy of the twisted mind of…Bucket

*** As a side note, don’t forget to let all the pieces and the tub dry out thoroughly before packing all away, as any residual moisture could damage the motor, switches, or electronics.

That pretty much says it all, I have a fox and love it. I’d rather use it than a gold pan that’s fer sure.

Question…have a 30 mesh clasifier, but what is the best size to use for the desert fox or can you use various sizes so long as run seperately?

I don’t think I would go much higher than 30 mesh because the desert fox can work bigger material better, anything smaller would be better with say a bluebowl or a miller table, now it’s not to say with some experimentation you could get finer but I have never gone that fine myself. -Bucket
